Berlin clubs to reopen fully next week

Clubbing will return to Berlin from Friday, 4th March.

The news comes after the legal return of dancing in Germany was confirmed at government level last week, with the Berlin Senate now following up to ratify the move. Dancing indoors had been banned in Berlin since early December amid a move back towards some lockdown measures due to the arrival of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Masks and social distancing will not be required upon the reopening of clubs, but the 2G+ rule – requiring club attendees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or recently recovered from the virus – will come back into place. All attendees must also show proof of a negative antigen test, regardless of whether they’re fully vaccinated or not.

Berlin isn’t the only German state to ratify the return of indoor dancing, with Hamburg and North Rhine-Westphalia’s local governments having also already moved to allow the reopening of music venues and other similar spaces.

A number of clubs in Berlin have already set out announcing reopening parties, including Hoppetosse, Funkhaus and Paloma.

Berlin’s clubs had initially been forced to run at 50% capacity last November before a decision to force their full closure, by banning indoor dancing, came through weeks later.
