Ja Rule on Fyre Festival 2: “I’m not going to be there”
Ja Rule has confirmed he will not be performing at Fyre Festival II.
The US rapper was asked about his involvement in the alleged second edition of the fraudulent music festival during a recent interview for FOX 5’s Good Day, New York.
After being told that Fyre Festival founder Billy McFarland was promoting a follow-up event, Ja Rule responded, “Oh Lord? No, he isn’t!” before jokingly trying to change the subject.
He later clarified: “Nah, I’m not going to be there, but cheers!”
McFarland has claimed that Fyre II will take place this summer in Isla Mujeres, a tropical island off Cancún, Mexico. However, the local tourist board have since released a statement claiming that the festival “does not exist” and they “have no knowledge of the event”.
Ja Rule was involved in promoting the disastrous first edition of Fyre Festival in 2017 which resulted in a number of lawsuits (one class-action lawsuit got a $7,226 payout for 277 ticket-holders), documentaries, a film, and a prison sentence and £3 million repayment for Billy McFarland.
After being promised the best in music, art and food on a private island in the Bahamas, festival-goers were left stranded at the non-existent luxury festival site, and provided with prepackaged sandwiches, wet mattresses and disaster relief tents.
Netflix’s FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened and Hulu’s Fyre Fraud, both released in 2019, further documented what attendees described as hellish conditions.
Shortly after the films aired, Rule responded on Twitter, writing, “I had an amazing vision to create a festival like NO OTHER!!! I would NEVER SCAM or FRAUD anyone what sense does that make???”
“I too was hustled, scammed, bamboozled, hood winked, lead […] astray!!!”” he added in another tweet.
Ja Rule was not held accountable for his involvement in the festival, with a judge concluding that he may not have been aware of how badly the event was organised.
According to an announcement on Fyre Festival’s official Instagram, which was dormant until February 2025, the second edition of the festival will be produced by Mexican events company, Lostnights.
“We’re producing a highly exclusive, boutique and sustainable experience for FYRE Festival 2, set for May 30 – June 2, 2025,” Lostnights said in a statement. “Fyre Festival 2 has secured top-tier private venues and hotels in partnership with our local allies who have established communications with the corresponding authorities to ensure full compliance and flawless execution.”
Ticket prices reportedly range from $1,400 to $25,000, with premium packages being priced as high as $1.1 million.
