Lady Decibel: Shaping the Future of Electronic Music

Lady Decibel, an Orlando-based DJ duo, has emerged on the Electronic Music scene, eager to make their mark with their dynamic approach and vibrant energy.

Drawing from influences spanning across House, Dance, and Techno, they craft a sound that appears both modern and nostalgic, putting forward a refreshing vibe through their work.

Today, in this exclusive interview, Lady Decibel opens up about the experiences, musical inspirations, and creative processes that shape their journey as artists, providing a glimpse into the duo’s world and the unique chemistry driving their artistry.

T.H.E – Hi Lady Decibel, how are you doing?

Lady Decibel – We’ve been super great lately, thanks for asking!

T.H.E – When was the last time you heard a track that made you rethink your sound?

Lady Decibel – It happened earlier this May. We had mostly been into House music and thought that would remain our focus (which explains our earlier House releases). But one day, during a random drive, we decided to play some old-school Dance music and ended up listening to Now I’m Singin’… (And the Party Keeps on Rollin’) by the German Eurodance act, Rollergirl. This album, which came out in 1999, has always been a favourite of ours! Rollergirl became the key inspiration for our new Dance sound and is the reason we completely reshaped the direction of Lady Decibel’s music.

T.H.E – What was the last classic record that you rediscovered?

Lady Decibel – It’s funny you bring that up! Just the other day, we were listening to Darude’s iconic Rush album from 2003. The whole thing is a Trance masterpiece, but the track “Bitter Sweet” especially gives you chills—it’s pure euphoria. Early Dance music was just amazing, so full of life, melody, and emotion. That’s exactly what we aim for in every one of our releases.

T.H.E – When was the last time you found inspiration in a place you didn’t expect?

Lady Decibel – There’s one unforgettable event that we hold close to our hearts: our first John Mayer concert in 2022. That night, he shared the stage with some of the most legendary musicians out there. On bass was the incredible Pino Palladino, a true icon who’s played with artists like The Who, Eric Clapton, Adele, and Jeff Beck. And on drums, John brought Aaron Sterling, who’s recorded with stars like Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Lana Del Rey, and Maroon 5. Imagine this powerhouse trio performing live in a packed arena. The energy was unreal, and with COVID restrictions easing, people were out for the first time in ages, loving every moment and completely locked into the music.

That night reignited our love for music, sparking the idea for Lady Decibel. Dianne, a DJ and producer in her teens and early 20s, had stepped away from music in 2013, but this single night brought that passion back to life. Anya felt it, too, and was inspired to dive into DJing and music herself. And that’s how Lady Decibel came to life.

T.H.E – What’s the last genre or style that has influenced your music recently?

Lady Decibel – A new style of Dance music has been rising from the underground, inspired by the sound of Marlon Hoffstadt (DJ Daddy Trance). We’re still not quite sure what to call it, but this new sound has been a major influence on our recent work. Expect a lot of our upcoming remixes to carry this style—keep an ear out!

T.H.E – When was the last time you heard a remix that you wished you’d made?

Lady Decibel – Great question! One remix instantly comes to mind: the Steve Aoki and KAAZE remix of Britney Spears’ “Toxic.” It absolutely RIPS and is currently our top dancefloor weapon. If you haven’t heard it yet, go give it a listen—you won’t be disappointed!

T.H.E – What was the last artist who surprised you with their creative evolution?

Lady Decibel – We’d have to say Eli Brown. He’s a huge inspiration for Lady Decibel, especially when it comes to our Techno sound. Eli originally started in House, but when he transitioned to Techno a few years back, it felt like he truly found his musical and stylistic identity. His new Techno style is incredible, and he actually inspired our own shift from House to Techno.

T.H.E – When was the last time you revisited an old project and gave it new life?

Lady Decibel – This happened with our recent release, “Waiting.” The demo was initially created in May, but we officially released it in August, marking the introduction of our new Dance sound.

T.H.E – What’s the last track that inspired you to hit the studio immediately?

Lady Decibel – Gabry Ponte & SMACK’s “Rock Da House” is a new Hard Dance banger that totally blew us away on first listen. It’s the opening track featured on our Spotify artist playlist, RAVE REVIVAL. For those who might not know, Gabry Ponte is part of the legendary Eurodance group Eiffel 65, famous for their global hit “Blue (Da Ba Dee).” “Rock Da House” features a ravey, hard-hitting dance lead that’s reminiscent of the early rave scene and even has a sound strikingly similar to Voodoo & Serano’s 2003 hit “Blood Is Pumping.”

T.H.E – When was the last time you drew inspiration from a conversation with another artist?

Lady Decibel – It was recent, actually. We’ve been connecting online with other women who share a similar sound and style, and discovering this community has been incredibly inspiring. There’s something empowering about finding like-minded artists who are passionate about the same music. It motivates us to collaborate, share ideas, and uplift each other. It’s a reminder of the strength in our collective creativity and the importance of supporting one another in a male-dominated industry. The connections we’ve made have sparked new ideas and fueled our passion for our craft even more!

T.H.E – What was the last non-music art form that influenced your creative direction?

Lady Decibel – Are documentaries art? They totally can be, right? This thought hit us after we got sucked into a bunch of early ’90s rave documentaries on YouTube. We couldn’t help ourselves—they’re just so good! There’s something so special about listening to those original old-school ravers talk with so much passion about the music and culture. It’s like they’re telling stories of a hidden world where everyone truly belongs, no matter who they are. These people live and breathe electronic music, and they’re so devoted it’s contagious. You can feel the energy and unity, like the scene was one big family looking out for each other. It’s amazing to see an underground world that’s so inclusive and tight-knit. Honestly, it’s a reminder of how powerful a shared passion can be.
