Premiere: Hassan Abou Alam ‘Mesh Mafhoom’
Hassan Abou Alam will release a new EP, ‘Mesh Mafhoom’, on Nerve Collect later this week. Have an exclusive first listen to the title track below.
The rising Egyptian export chases releases for Rhythm Section, Banoffee Pies, and most recently YUKU, with six entropic collages of bass, breaks, and techno for Dutch label Nerve Collect. ‘Mesh Mafhoom’ – which roughly translates to ‘misunderstood’ in Arabic – finds Abou Alam venturing further into the depths he excavated on his December EP, ‘Shalfata’, colliding warping rhythms and head-rushing percussion with some of the most dauntless sound design in the game.
From the kinetic bass sizzle of ‘Basha’, featuring Ziad Zaza, Ismail Nosrat & Aly B, through the full-pelt techno headrush of ‘Waggle’ and ‘Lakking’ into the lurching rhythms of the title cut, it’ll delight fans of Laksa, Pariah and Verraco.
‘Mesh Mafhoom’ is out 24th August on 12” vinyl and via all digital platforms. Pre-order the EP here, and have an exclusive first listen to the title track below.
