fabric upgrades Room 1 sound system after 25 years
fabric has upgraded its Room 1 sound system after 25 years.
It’s the first time the venue has changed its legendary main rig since opening, with the upgrade taking place ahead of official birthday celebrations marking the London institution’s quarter-centenary.
Renowned UK firm Martin Audio has again worked in partnership with the club to develop the new audio setup, developed following consultation with the in-house team, regular guest DJs, producers and promoters. The new system retains elements of the original, including the famous F12 monitors.
“If you’ve visited fabric in the past 25 years, you’re well aware that our sound system is one of our greatest prides. From the beginning, we’ve believed that sound quality is, if not the most, integral part of creating a great vibe,” read an official statement by the club. “We have been diligently testing, refining, and upgrading the Room 1 sound system to deliver cutting-edge sound and enhance the dancefloor experience.
“There was a nervousness that the new installation could change the character of what the room was about,” added fabric’s tech manager, Matt Smith, who admitted “there was a romanticism about [the old] system… The new system delivers a lot more power, and with the power availability of the new amps, we are never going to get near peaking. It’s very clean, tight and punchy… but it’s not about volume for us, we want to keep it sounding good rather than loud.”
Earlier this week, fabric announced the details of its 30-hour, non-stop 25th anniversary party, which will run Saturday 12th – Monday 14th October. DJs including Ricardo Villalobos, Gabrielle Kwarteng, Ben Klock, BASHKKA, and Josh Caffé are all set to play. The club is still in the throes of a world tour in honour of its birthday. In September, it will host a stage over the eight-day ION Festival in Albania, before events in Ibiza, New York, and at ADE Festival, Amsterdam. A special release series also forms part of the celebrations.
