Detroit legend Rick Wilhite launches fundraiser following neuropathy diagnosis

Legendary Detroit figure Rick Wilhite has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help him cover his medical expenses after recently receiving a diagnosis of neuropathy.

The DJ and producer was diagnosed with the condition after “an unfortunate incident” that left him with severe burns on his feet. In a note on the GoFundMe page, he said: “I’m currently recovering from my first round of treatment, including a surgical procedure. My mobility is minimal, and I’m in substantial pain. But I’m grateful.”

Money donated via the crowdfunding campaign will be used both for “medical expenses” and “day-to-day responsibilities”, Wilhite added, noting that he has been forced to cancel all DJ gigs for the foreseeable future.

The GoFundMe campaign currently has a goal of $20,000, with just over $17,000 of that amount having been raised at the time of writing. You can donate funds to support Wilhite here.

Regarded as a legend in Detroit’s house and techno scene, Wilhite has been DJing and producing music for over three decades. In addition to releasing music for labels such as Rush Hour and Moodymann’s Mahogani Music, he is also part of 3 Chairs, the Detroit collective that also includes Theo Parrish, Moodymann and Marcellus Pittman.

In 2021, 3 Chairs released a retrospective compilation via Bandcamp covering their work between 1997 and 2013.
