Black Artist Database will release its new compilation, ‘Synergy Vol. 2’, this week. Have an exclusive first listen to mi-el’s ‘Atlantic’ below.

The London DJ, producer and Venue MOT co-booker joins a star-studded cast of underground dance music talent on B.A.D’s second release, including Ehua, Jurango, Yazzus, Olive T and recent DJ Mag cover star CARISTA. Also featured are tracks from Shaun J. Wright, Afrodisiac, [M], AGY3NA, Sarah Farina and DJ PGZ.

Hopping between “heady dancefloor stompers and sunrise cool-downs”, the release picks up right where the amazing ‘Synergy Vol.1’ left off, celebrating a wide spectrum of Black electronic creativity from Naarm to Nairobi and beyond.

mi-el’s ‘Atlantic’ follows recent tracks including the captivating vocal collage, ‘from the river to the sea’, which saw all proceeds go to Medical Aid for Palestinians, and the bouncy club cut, ‘so shook (oops bootleg)’, which appeared on the ‘Hoe__mies 4 Palestine’ compilation.

‘Atlantic’ is a slice of subtly shapeshifting techno. What kicks off as a pure four-to-the-floor smasher soon veers into hip-swinging breaks by way of a glitchy vocal pit-stop. These layers shift and morph over the course of the track, before culminating in a driving percussive climax. It’s an absolute scorcher.

‘Synergy Vol. 2’ will be released on 5th April. You can buy it here.

mi-el also recently contributed a mix to fabric’s International Women’s Day series. You can listen to that here.

A launch party for the new compilation, with a line-up featuring CARISTA, TYGAPAW, NIKS and others, will take place at London’s fabric on 18th May.

Released last June, the first instalment of the ‘Synergy’ compilation series marked the inauguration of Black Artist Database’s record label. To coincide with the release, DJ Mag ran a series of articles with featured artists in conversation with one another. You can find links to all of those below.
