Portishead announce 25th anniversary vinyl reissue of classic live album, ‘Roseland NYC Live’

Portishead are set to reissue their classic live album ‘Roseland NYC’ on vinyl and CD for its 25th anniversary.

Set for release on 26th April, the re-release will include a limited-edition red double-LP vinyl with gatefold sleeve, double-sided poster foldout, and recreation backstage ‘sticky pass’ as used at the concert, which also comes with the CD version. A digital edition hit streaming services in November — a quarter century to the month since its original release.

The record remains the band’s only official concert release, and captures the legendary Bristol trip-hop outfit  playing alongside a 28-piece orchestra at the iconic Roseland Ballroom in New York in 1997. The set includes tracks from the band’s seminal ‘Dummy‘ album, which had never been played live before.

“I’ve always held the memory of this show, which we played before our second album was released. This was the first time an audience had heard the new tunes and it was put together to launch the album,” Portishead’s Adrian Utley said of the reissue in a statement. “Great care was taken over the orchestrations and look of the filming. It preceded a year long world tour for us.”

The original ‘Roseland NYC’ album replaced two songs from the band’s set, ‘Sour Times’ and ‘Roads’, with recordings from other gigs. Both are now reinstated on the updated version. The tracklist has also been expanded to include ‘Undenied’ and ‘Numb’, taken from the accompanying film of the concert. In addition, a full-length performance of ‘Western Eyes’, which scored the credits to the movie, features.

Earlier this month, Portishead vocalist Beth Gibbons announced her debut solo album, ‘Lives Outgrown‘, which will arrive in May.
