Korg announces new Kaoss Replay sampler and FX unit

Korg has announced a new version of their classic Kaoss Pad effects unit called the Kaoss Replay. The new device adds sampler-style features to the popular unit, with 16 sampler pads and a screen that doubles up as an X/Y touch surface. There are 128 total sample slots across eight banks of 16, with up to 100 projects stored on its built-in storage.

Fitting with the legacy of the Kaoss range, there’s also plenty of FX, with 128 to choose from — including reverbs, delays, filters, loopers, modulation, vocoders and more. Each effect can be automated using Pad Motion, recording your finger motion, playing it back, and looping in sync with your project tempo. There’s also specific vocal FX for the dedicated mic input, including pitch correction for any loops you might be building with the unit.

The 16 pads are velocity-sensitive, and there are two assignable crossfaders that can control any parameter or group within the Replay.

Connectivity-wise, there’s a line and phono input for sampling directly from turntables, as well as a mic-in jack and a separate aux-in. There’s also old school 5-pin MIDI I/O and USB microB port for connecting to a computer. Storage is taken care of via a microSD card.

The Korg Kaoss Replay costs £949 and is available soon. Find out more on the Korg website.
