VTSS, Jessica Audiffred, Kyrist announced for BBC’s Annie Nightingale Scholarship 2022

BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Nightingale has announced the three winners of her 2022 scholarship.

Launched last year, the Annie Nightingale Presents Scholarship 2022 will go to VTSS, Jessica Audiffred and Kyrist. The three artists will appear on a special Saturday night edition of Nightingale’s show on 5th November from 9 PM to midnight UK time.

“Are you kidding? This has always been a dream to me,” Mexican DJ and producer Jessica Audiffred said in reaction to winning. “Especially considering the UK is the birthplace of dubstep. I can’t wait to connect with new fans in the region.”

Polish producer and DJ VTSS was happy this would make her mother proud, “I can’t wait to have my mom in Poland listen to it live as obviously she doesn’t understand a lot of the things I’m doing, but this is one of those she gets the importance of,” she said.

The scholarship programme was created by Nightingale — BBC Radio 1’s first female DJ in 1970 and the station’s longest-serving presenter — to champion women and non-binary people in dance music and give them a platform. “It’s a huge honour to be involved in something like this amongst such inspiring women in music,” Bristol-based Kyrist said.

The inaugural year’s scholarship winners were Martha, LCY and GODLANDS. Listen to a recent episode of Annie Nightingale Presents with highlights their scholarship show here.

Last month, VTSS released the ‘Circulus Vitiosus’ EP, her debut on Ninja Tune.
