Double 99 announce 25-year anniversary ‘Ripgroove’ remix package

Double 99 are giving their hit ‘Ripgroove’ a special 25th anniversary release. Listen to the first part below.

The self-described inventors of speed garage have enlisted Top Cat to feature on the anniversary edit EP, out now. The MC performed on the original vocal mix of the track, which hit No.14 in the UK singles chart back when it was released. The EP includes the ‘Reimagination Edit’, which also has a club mix, plus ‘The Director’s Cut’ version and closing ‘Double 99 vs. 10 Below Mix’. It’s the first of two parts, according to the London duo’s Instagram.

Double99 re-recorded their 1997 debut single this past April at RAK Studios with a 16-piece string ensemble, The 12 Ensemble & Friends.

‘Ripgroove’ has had a lasting impact on dance music, with the late-’90s Tina Moore bootleg remix landing in Matt Anniss’s feature on the history of bassline from earlier this year. In more recent ‘Ripgroove’ history, SHERELLE’s breakout could arguably be traced back to the moment she played the Fixate edit on Boiler Room in 2019.

Check out the EP on Bandcamp, and listen to the ‘Reimagination Edit’.
