J. Caesar’s new EP, ‘Take To The Sky’, is inspired by ‘90s UK dance music, balearic beat and street soul

Scenic Route’s latest release comes from London artist J. Caesar. The ‘Take To The Sky’ EP is out now — listen to it below.

The four-track EP on the London-based label, run by Theo Fabunmi-Stone, AKA Bryce’s Brother, and Astral Black’s Jon Phonics, leans into ’90s UK club nostalgia, incorporating broken beat, garage and street soul genres.

A songwriter, singer and producer, J. Caesar leads vocals and coproduces with Rhythm Section’s Mali Baden-Powell, AKA Z Lovecraft and Mali-I. The first track, ‘I Told You’, features London artist and previous collaborator Yagamoto and is an appreciation of his friends: “All I had was love, love of my friends, love of music and love of living”.

Fabunmi-Stone also runs the London label and party 404 eros with Dique; recently they launched a multi-sensory mixtape series centred around Notting Hill Carnival’s “lost years”. The first entry by Equiknoxx is out now, with mixes by Dennis Bovell, Errol Anderson, Shy One and Blazer Sound System still to come.

Check out the EP on Bandcamp, and listen to the opening track, ‘I Told You’.
