Avicii's family sells 75% of music rights to Pophouse Entertainment

Avicii’s family has sold 75% of his music rights to Pophouse Entertainment, who are based in Stockholm.

In a statement shared today by the late EDM star’s (real name Tim Bergling) parents, Klas Bergling and Anki Lidén, the pair said that the sale of his master recordings and publishing rights would allow them to “retain sufficient control” over Avicii’s music and legacy, and keep “personal involvement in its continued development”.

“Pophouse has presented a concrete concept and proposal for the long-term care and development of Tim’s musical heritage,” Klaus Bergling said in the statement. “My wife and I feel that as we are getting older, we do not have the right energy level or required skills to fully keep ahead of the new streaming and digital developments vital for such a big, international artist as Tim (Avicii) de facto is, on a level that even we as parents have not been able to fully grasp or understand.

“Through this deal, we are also securing the Tim Bergling Foundation’s long-term finances, creating opportunity to act decisively on the Foundation’s commitments to supporting such important issues as mental health and well-being of young people.”

Pophouse’s CEO and the Bergling family previously worked together on the opening of the Avicii Experience, an interactive museum dedicated to the star in Stockholm, earlier this year.

Tim Bergling died by suicide in 2018 aged 28-years-old, and his third studio album, ‘TIM’ was released by his family in 2019. It saw the artist awarded two posthumous Swedish Grammys, and won the award for Best Album at 2020’s International Dance Music Awards.
