Mount Kimbie announce new double-album ‘MK 3.5: Die Cuts | City Planning’ on Warp
Mount Kimbie have announced a new double-album, ‘MK 3.5: Die Cuts | City Planning’, which arrives on 4th November via Warp.
The LP represents the two sides of the UK duo comprising Dom Maker and Kai Campos, with Maker turning his hand to the “colourful and melody-led” ‘Die Cuts’ and Campos creating the “tactile and unpredictable” ‘City Planning’ half.
‘Die Cuts’ was inspired by Maker’s move to LA and celebrates his love of collaboration, which is embodied by the record’s an impressive raft of vocalists. Longtime friends James Blake and Slowthai are among these, alongside new collaborators Danny Brown, Reggie, Nomi, Keiyaa, Wiki, Liv.e, Kucka and Choker. Campos draw inspiration for ‘City Planning’ from his experience of DJing, having embarked on a project of “intense listening and thinking about listening” following the release of his DJ-Kicks mix in 2018.
To coincide with the album announcement, the duo have also dropped a new double A-side single, which features ‘f1 racer (feat. Kučka)’, produced by Dom Maker, and ‘Zone 1 (24 Hours),’ produced by Kai Campos. Yesterday, Mount Kimbie also dropped an album off-cut, ‘locked in (feat. Maxo Kream & Pa Salieu)’ produced by Dom Maker. Watch the new video for ‘f1 racer’ directed by Duncan Loudon and check out the new singles below.
Earlier this month, Mount Kimbie teased their upcoming album with four new tracks, which included two high-profile collaborations on ‘in your eyes (feat. slowthai and Danny Brown) and ‘a deities encore’ (feat, Liv.e). The new music marked the pair’s first since last year’s one-off release, ‘Black Stone / Blue Liquid’. In July, Maker contributed to a Flume remix package alongside Logic1000, Prospa, and more. Meanwhile, last month Campos dropped a new track with Actress, ‘AZD Surf’.
‘MK 3.5: Die Cuts | City Planning’ will be available on limited-edition clear vinyl, black vinyl, CD, and digital formats.
