An invite-only club has opened in New York

A club has quietly opened in Brooklyn and clubgoers need to secure an invite to enter.

Venus In Furs, also known as Paragon, is a multi-storey space located on Broadway Avenue in Brooklyn’s Bed-Stuy neighbourhood. It’s the newest project from John Barclay, who was also behind the indefinitely closed Bossa Nova Civic Club and involved with renowned 2010s DIY space 285 Kent.

Those who wish to attend Venus In Furs must RSVP via the club’s website, though that does not guarantee an invite. The website also lays out the venue’s other policies: “Absolutely no racism, no sexism, no homophobia, no transphobia, no violence. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. Violators will [be] removed immediately, permanently banned and/or prosecuted. Guest list strictly enforced.”

Venus In Furs has been hosting events through the winter, including a Dweller event according to RA, but Bossa Nova Civic Club Instagram made a public announcement on 11th April. “As you may have heard, we have been working on a new spot for quite some time,” the post reads. “We’ve been keeping it top secret until now but seems like it may be time to slowly open the gates.”

Venus In Furs opens in an existing venue space which operated under the same name at 990 Broadway and closed at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in New York City.
