A “drive-in” concert is under investigation for a lack of social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic.

US duo The Chainsmokers are facing backlash for a “drive-in” concert they performed at in The Hamptons this past weekend. Around 2,000 guests attended the open-air concert in the luxury Southampton area, with tickets reportedly ranging between £970 to £19,400. The Chainsmokers were supported by Goldman Sachs SEO David Solomon, who performed under his EDM alias DJ D-Sol.

During the event, which took place on 26th July, videos were shared on social media highlighting a clear lack of social distancing, with attendees at the event even leaving their cars to enter a “pit”. 

Following the event, New York governer Andrew Cuomo announced that The Department of Health will be conducting an investigation. In the state of New York, events are currently capped at 50. In a post on Twitter, Cuomo said: “videos from a concert held in Southampton on Saturday show egregious social distancing violations. I am appalled. The Department of Health will conduct an investigation. We have no tolerance for the illegal & reckless endangerment of public health.”

Flyers circulating on social media advertising the Chainsmokers’ first Hamptons show listed “other major cities to come,” including Miami and Nashville.
