Berlin clubs among spaces to be given access to €30 million in grants

News

Berlin’s local government is set to provide €30 million in grants to private institutions throughout the city.

Clubs and museums are among the institutions set to benefit from the grants, which are part of Berlin’s emergency initiative amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications are now open for clubs to seek a grant.

The news comes as Berlin’s Clubcommission also revealed that it had received over €370,000 in donations for clubs. While the availability of grants will be of enormous help for Berlin’s clubs, Clubcommissions’ press coordinator Lutz Leichsenring told Pollstar that donations will still be important in these uncertain times. “The donations still come in handy,” he said. “As it allows us to take care of hardship cases and clubs that are still employing mini-jobbers, who aren’t being taken into consideration at the moment.”

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, clubs across Germany remain shut for the foreseeable future. However, recent relaxing of lockdown measures has meant that certain record stores in Berlin have started being able to open their doors once more.
