Munich’s Blitz club announces closure

There are clubs that exist not because someone spotted a gap in the market, but because a group of people genuinely believed in something. Munich’s BLITZ is one of those places, and after nearly a decade on the dance floor, it will close its doors for the final time in 2026.

The announcement arrived without drama or finger-pointing. The team behind BLITZ signed their lease almost ten years ago with little more than a feeling and a set of values: openness, respect, and a straightforward belief that dancing together is worth building something around. What grew from that became a well-regarded and devoted music space in the city.

It was never a perfect journey, and the BLITZ team are the first to admit it. Mistakes were made along the way. But night by night, something accumulated that felt bigger than the people running the place. That tends to be the mark of a club that has found its footing.

The closure comes for reasons beyond their control. No further detail is offered. What matters is how they intend to go out. The closing weekend will run from Friday 31st July through to Monday 3rd August, with the team describing it as the biggest celebration they have ever hosted. Until then, programming continues as normal, with artists being announced in the months ahead.

The gratitude BLITZ holds for the people who made it what it was comes through clearly. Not just the artists, but every member of staff and every person who turned up and danced. A place like this is always a collective effort, regardless of who holds the lease.

Ten years is a solid run for any independent club, and the people behind BLITZ feel it was worth the effort. For the time that remains, the plan is simply to celebrate what has been built and keep dancing. They are also working on what comes next, with the suggestion that this is not the end of the story entirely.
