Filed by amkr03eydamkr03eyd

Sony-Backed Music Label Liquid State Set To Take Over Asia As the electronic dance music scene expands its horizons, well-known American and European artists have joined the movement. Sony Music & Chinese streaming and tech giant, Tencent Music Entertainment, have teamed up to create a new Asia-based music label: Liquid State.

What does it mean? With EDM festivals like Storm in China, and Ultra all across Asia, over 60% the Asia-Pacific regions are EDM listeners. This population has since grown over the past 3 years.

Liquid State will develop original EDM content. Tencent’s streaming services, QQ Music, Kugou Music and Kuwo Music, Liquid State will surely capitalize on its large customer base. With their different media channels, Liquid State will also support its artists in China, like Alan Walker for instance.

To help integrate into Asia, there will be an ambassador for every major Asian country. Chinese superstar Chris Lee will be the ambassador for China, singer and actor Nicholas Tse will be the ambassador for Hong Kong and Taiwan, and Seungri from BIGBANG will be the ambassador for South Korea. All three regions have long standing relationships with Tencent Music Entertainment.

Here’s a sneak peak the initial roster: Chinese DJ Lizzy, Korean Duo Junkilla, Chinese American musician Zhu, and Dubai duo Hollaphonic are set to release music through the label this year!

Black Coffee announces Hï Ibiza residency for summer 2018

Filed by Ryan FerroRyan Ferro

Black Coffee has announced his Hï Ibiza residency for summer 2018, with his first appearance marking the club’s launch for its second season.

The venue will welcome punters from Saturday 26th May, running until 6th October, during which time the South African DJ, whose last album, ‘Pieces of Me’, achieved double platinum status upon release in 2015, is again in control every Saturday night.

Details at the moment are scarce in terms of other names locked in for the year ahead, or indeed who will be joining Black Coffee on the first night, but given the artists who appeared in 2017— the first year Hï was open— you can expect some very, very big guns indeed.

As we reported earlier this month, the Playa d’en Bossa operation which we expect big things from in DJ Mag’s Top 100 Clubs 2018 poll, has also confirmed a new pricing system with a variety of rates, meaning Super Early Bird tickets will be on sale for €20, far lower than many other door taxes on the White Island. Full details of that here, and you can still read our interview with Black Coffee from October

Denis Sulta has locked Seth Troxler and Gerd Janson for Sulta Selects FLY Open Air, which will mark his first ever festival curation.

Other names on the line-up include Jayda G, Tom Trago, San Proper, Or:la, Cromby, Sally C, and Jenny Cheng, with the date confirmed as Saturday 19th May 2018, and the location one of the UK’s most stunning stately homes, Hopetoun House, a 17th Century treasure eight-miles from Edinburgh, overlooking the equally striking Fourth Bridge.

While this is Sulta’s inaugural stint in charge of bookings for an outdoor session, his 12-hour party at Liquid Rooms and Old Leith Theatre proved he understands how to programme running orders, hence it making our Top 30 UK Club Events in October 2017. FLY, the Scottish party-turned-nightlife institution featured in our Inner City Life Edinburgh focus (DJ Mag 573), which Sulta retains a residency at, is no stranger to one-dayers, either, last year hosting a huge bash at the iconic Edinburgh Castle.

Zeds Dead x Ganja White Night - Samurai

Zeds Dead x Ganja White Night – Samurai

A haunting piano sets the vibe for this mega-collaboration beautifully, leading us to a sonic world full unique textures and sounds. This tune is heavy as expected but it’s delivered in a evolutionary way that showcases both groups musicality. “Samurai” is one the most beautiful and alluring electronic songs in bass music we’ve heard in a while and it certainly sets a strong tone for Ganja White Night’s forthcoming LP, The Origins, out everywhere February 5.

“These guys have been on top the bass world for years now and hold some the truest classics the genre.” “We supported Zeds Dead’s] Zach and Dylan on their Deadbeats performance in Seattle. Following their performance, we got a text from Dylan asking if we wanted to go B2B at an after party. We all got comfortable behind the decks together and the rest is history. Musically, we feel really good about how this song came together. We wanted to do something different, something that would surprise. We focused on creating an extended dramatic introduction and Zach and Dylan came in with their iconic drops. Once we had the pieces in place, we spent time going back and forth blending everything together and finding little pieces we could improve on. This was a real pleasure for us.” – Ganja White Night

You can listen to “Samurai” on Soundcloud below, and check back in on February 5th for the release The Origins.
