In a shocking turn events, Afrojack excitedly ran into the crowd at Chicago’s Spring Awakening to accept his new fate as a masked producer. The Dutch DJ and producer saw the moment, and seized the opportunity head on. Literally.

Forget marshmallow heads, the future lies within all things mouse, albeit Pikachu this time. Sporting a Pikachu head, an eager fan waited as Afrojack ran into the crowd to greet festival goers and commit to the Pikachu head, accepting his new identity and perpetual competition with fellow DJ and producer, Marshmello. This new DJ helmet is seemingly the future for all things electronic, as it combines not only the music genre, but the Pokemon type as well. Without even knowing it, Afrojack has created truly groundbreaking new line DJ attire.

To celebrate Kanye West’s 41st birthday, Kim Kardashian asked none other than Rick and Morty to kick f the occasion with a custom birthday tune for Kanye.

Kim K commissioned the help Justin Roiland, the co-creator the show and voice Rick and Morty, to record the birthday song for Kanye. A handful weeks ago, Kanye admitted that Rick and Morty is actually his favorite show, noting he’s seen each episode “at least 5 times each.”

has unveiled a stellar party programme for the forthcoming season, confirming the likes , , and more for a string summer line-ups.

With a new extended closing time 4am this year, Pikes aims to maintain its “below-the-radar” approach to show programming and promotions, whilst fering up quality cultural and musical experiences on the island.

From a special one-f show from on June 15 through to “four sweaty nights disco, sex and more”, expect surprise guests and big name talents across the summer months.

Trainspotting author will also make an appearance at the hotel this season alongside John Niven and Tracey Thorn at the Pikes Literary Festival. Running from September 11 to 12, the festival will include spoken word events, creative writing advice panels and author readings.

Children Of Zeus announce debut album, ‘Travel Light’

Manchester duo will release their debut album ‘Travel Light’ on July 13 First Word Records.

Children Zeus, aka Tyler Daley and Konny Kon, have built up a steady reputation on the scene thanks to killer string , a standout compilation EP and an undeniably distinctive sound. The forthcoming LP, described in a press release as, “their debut album proper”, is set to showcase the duos signature blend hip hop, smooth soul and jazz-inflected electronica in full-length for the very first time with features from the likes DRS, Metrodome and more.

Titled ‘Travel Light’, the album name represents the crews ethos , “keeping their eyes on the road ahead, whilst shedding the baggage they’ve accumulated over the years.”

, Lisa Lashes, Norris Windross and more have been announced for the evening entertainment, whilst the daytime conference features panels and discussions on topics such as drugs testing and harm reduction, festival safety, equality and diversity in industry and more.

The Summer Solstice Trade Festival 2018 takes place June 12 in Shoreditch, London. Daytime events will take place from 1pm through to 7pm, with the evening schedule running from 7pm until 11:30pm.

has been confirmed for the next XOYO residency, following up Hessle Audio’s as the club’s latest Friday night star.

With ‘13 Weeks. 13 Flavas’ lined up for the 3 month slot, Flava D will play out at the venue every Friday across July, August and September.

The mainstay is set to bring her distinctive, bass-driven UK sound to East London over the course the residency, alongside a selection homegrown and international talents.

From through to AJ Tracey, Wiley, , , L U C Y, , , , Skepsis, , and many more, the diverse programme is a fire representation the UK bass music scene and beyond.

Taking to Flava D explained, “So chuffed about my residency. I wanted to bring in as many artists as I could that have had an impact on me, whether as I was growing up or in today’s scene. I think one the keys to a good party is variety. So each night we change up the styles.”

Kuduro music brings Angola onto the global dancefloor

In this episode Smirnf and Mixmag’s ongoing documentary series Global Dancefloor viewers are transported to the African nation Angola to explore how the country’s booming musical export kuduro is the source local pride.

With the help from kuduro producers Zoca Zoca and Cabo Snoop – two expert practitioners the gyrating and unique musical style – the unifying nature the genre is revealed. The local community celebrates its core values with kuduro, as Zoca Zoca fiercely states, “kuduro is art, kuduro is dance, kuduro is culture – the root Angola.”

Cabo Snoop further outlines how the distinct culture surrounding this style music is focused on finding new and unique ways thinking: “People are able to take away the differences they have from one another and get together for a show.”

While the homegrown genre is ingrained in Angola, the global adoption kuduro has given the country’s culture a point delight and motivation as their electrifying sound joins the ranks the worldwide dance music scene.

With a set up that included vocals, keys, cymbals, and an Alesis drum-pad, Poté’s one man live show was soulful and melodic: we could see why he was the ideal choice for warm up duties on Bonobo’s recent tour.
