TOMORA on Soundtracking the World Cup: A Musical Connection

TOMORA have spoken to NME about the unique experience of soundtracking the TV coverage of the World Cup in the UK, a moment that feels particularly poignant as their native countries of England and Norway prepare to face off tonight (Saturday, July 11).

The duo, comprised of Norwegian art-pop phenomenon Aurora and The Chemical Brothers legend Tom Rowlands, have seen two tracks from their acclaimed 2026 debut album, Come Closer, become synonymous with the tournament. UK football fans have been hearing the ear-worm single ‘Somewhere Else’ as the main theme for the BBC’s coverage, while ‘In A Minute’ has become a staple of ITV’s promotional broadcasts.

“We both liked the idea of this place called ‘Somewhere Else’,” the pair shared regarding the track. “We always pictured it written on a mysterious door that you could open and end up somewhere beautiful. Maybe just the place you need. We hear birds from inside this door; we put them in the song. It’s lovely.”

Regarding ‘In A Minute’, the duo explained the intent behind the vocal arrangements: “These voices are quite eager, the voices constantly singing during the whole song. We don’t want you to forget about them. Somehow they are important. It’s because of them and after they disappear that you get to where you need to be. In a minute you’ll see the sun, this is important to remember too.”

When asked about the selection of their music for such a global stage, the duo expressed their delight, noting that they “love football and the way it celebrates and unites people, like music.” They added, “It’s wonderful to see everyone so emotive and expressive with their emotions. This makes us happy.”

As for the upcoming match in Miami, Aurora remains optimistic about Norway’s chances, calling them “an underdog that you should fear,” while Rowlands feels England’s path to the final is “extremely high.” Regardless of the result, the duo continues to celebrate the spirit of the game, with Come Closer out now and a headline tour scheduled for October.
