T.H.E Interview – Damon Sharpe

T.H.E Interview – Damon Sharpe

U.S artist Damon Sharpe makes a welcome return with another sure fire release, also signalling a collaboration with Danish duo LittGloss.

Out via his ever growing Brainjack Music label – ‘It’s Goin Down’ oozes with dancefloor appeal & is injected with a dose of Damon Sharpe’s trademark sound. We caught up with Damon to find out more about his latest release, imprint & plans for the Summer – as he continues to carve his own path in the industry.

T.H.E – Damon, welcoming you back to T.H.E – Music Essentials! How’s Summer taking shape?

Damon Sharpe – It’s been amazing so far! I kicked off the summer with EDC Vegas and last week just had my birthday. Also enjoying the beautiful California sunshine, of course.

T.H.E – Having recently released your new single ‘It’s Goin Down’, how long ago did you begin plans on the track?

Damon Sharpe – I think it’s been over a year already? I hit up the LittGloss guys initially and asked if they wanted to work on it with me. The first draft came together pretty fast. We continued to ping pong back-and-forth fine-tuning it. We initially were using the original Yung Joc vocal but then decided to completely redo it. I ended up attempting to rap like him which was pretty funny but then I used AI to change my voice tone a bit then applied little altar boy to formant it down. At the end of the day we got it really pretty close to the original and it feels nice and grimy and sits well in the track flip we created.

T.H.E – Have you collaborated with LittGloss previously?

Damon Sharpe – Yes, LittGloss are amazing! They helped me with the production on two of my previous singles “Man Of The Year” on STNS/Insomniac and “Own That” on DJ Susan’s Hood Politics Records.

T.H.E – Released on your own Brainjack Music, how are things progressing with the label?

Damon Sharpe – We are now 75 releases deep in less than 2 years and are very focused on growing the label and our community of “Brainjackers”. We have done three live events, including last week’s sold out show at Catch One here in LA. We had a full lineup of artists that have released previously on Brainjack, including roomies.io, STPHN, IILO, BVRNN, Spacewalk and TRYPBOX. We also had special guests, including AXON, Linney, Tima Dee and Wenzl McGowen (aka the infamous @trafficconesaxman).

T.H.E – Do you have plans for any remixes of ‘It’s Goin Down’ to follow?

Damon Sharpe – We currently don’t have any plans for remixes but if there’s anyone out there that wants to do a remix, I would be more than happy to send the a cappella stems over. Feel free to reach out to [email protected]

T.H.E – Across the Summer months, what live shows or performances do you have coming up?

Damon Sharpe – This Saturday, July 20 I will be headlining PB Avenue in San Diego, next month I will be in Phoenix for a headline show at Almost Famous on August 23rd and also doing the Splash Down festival on the August 24th.

T.H.E – Lastly, what else can we expect from you release wise, across the remainder of the season?

Damon Sharpe – I have upcoming collaborations with the legendary Morgan Page, Esther Anaya, Wenzl and Linney and more…
