T.H.E Interview – Alex Cecil

In an exclusive conversation with T.H.E, rising DJ and producer Alex Cicil delves into the creative journey behind his latest release, “Hug Me,” a collaboration with the eclectic Dude Skywalker.

Known for his unique blend of soulful and psychedelic sounds, Alex shares the inspiration that led to this track, the dynamics of working alongside Dude Skywalker, and how “Hug Me” marks a significant milestone in his musical career. As he reflects on the emotional depth of this new release, Alex also offers a glimpse into his future projects and shares valuable advice for aspiring DJs and producers. This interview captures the essence of an artist who is not only making waves in the music industry but also connecting with audiences on a deeper, more personal level.

T.H.E – “Alex, congratulations on the release of ‘Hug Me’ with Dude Skywalker. Can you share the inspiration behind this new track?”

Alex – Thank you! The inspiration behind “Hug Me” came from capturing the essence of summer and connection. We wanted to create something that feels like an embrace.

T.H.E – “What was it like collaborating with Dude Skywalker on this project? How did you both blend your distinct sounds to create ‘Hug Me’?”

Alex – Collaborating with Dude Skywalker was an amazing experience. We all brought our unique styles to the table to create a unique blend of eclectic, psychedelic sounds with a soulful touch. The result is a track that balances our strengths, creating something super fresh.
Creative Process

T.H.E – “Can you walk us through your creative process for developing ‘Hug Me’? How did the track evolve from the initial idea to the final production?”

Alex – “Hug Me” started and ended as a late-night studio session in Miami. The energy was flowing, and within about 30 minutes, the lead clicked. From there, we built the rest of the track around that moment. The process was organic, with each element naturally falling into place while taking turns and discussing. An hour later, the track was done, and we knew we had something special.

T.H.E – “The release includes the ‘Open Hearts Mix’ and the ‘Heartbeat Mix.’ Could you explain the conceptual differences between these two versions?”

Alex – The “Open Hearts Mix” captures the uplifting side of love with warm melodies and a vibrant rhythm. It’s about the excitement of new connections. The “Heartbeat Mix” is more introspective, focusing on the deeper, more emotional aspects of love – the pulse and intensity that you feel in those moments of deep connection.

T.H.E – “You’ve been known for your eclectic style. How do your influences manifest in ‘Hug Me’, and how do they mesh with Dude Skywalker’s signature sounds?”

Alex – When we started there was no plan to mesh sounds in a certain way. But in retrospect, “Hug Me” blends my eclectic influences with Dude Skywalker’s signature groove. You can hear the mix of deep, soulful elements with a touch of uplifting energy. It’s a fusion of styles that reflects both our styles while creating something new, unique and refreshing.

T.H.E – Since the release, what has the audience response been like? Any memorable reactions or feedback that stood out to you?

T.H.E – It’s been truly fantastic and heart warming. People have really connected with the warmth of the “Open Heart Mix” and have cited goosebumps as a possible side effect. Beware!

Performance and Promotion

T.H.E – “With your extensive touring schedule, how do you plan to integrate ‘Hug Me’ into your sets? Are there any specific venues or events where you’re particularly excited to play it?”

Alex – “Hug Me” has definitely made its way into my sets and will continue to. It’s got the perfect vibe to slowly but surely lift the emotions of a crowd. It’s incredible for sunrise and sunset. I definitely expect it to get its fair share of play time at Burning Man this year.

I recently had a chance to play it during an impromptu b2b with Dude Skywalker at the 1-800 LUCKY RVDIOVCTIVE party. It was amazing to share it together with a live audience in Miami, where the track was born. We hugged.

T.H.E – With more releases on the horizon, can you give us a sneak peek into what’s next for you? Any upcoming collaborations or major gigs?

Alex – I’ve got some exciting projects lined up, including a collaboration with Nii Tei, an exciting remix of a track I’ve loved for the past year and a solo EP release on a French label I’ve always been a big fan of. There’s also a major gig coming up that I’m really looking forward to, but I can’t reveal too much just yet so stay tuned – I’ll be sharing on my instagram when the time comes.

T.H.E – “How does ‘Hug Me’ reflect your current phase in your music career? Does it mark any new directions or milestones for you personally?”

Alex – “Hug Me” is a milestone for me as it represents a deeper exploration of emotional connection in my music. It reflects where I am now – focused on creating tracks that not only make people move but also resonate on a more personal, emotional level.

T.H.E – “Having achieved notable success and being an in-demand DJ, what advice would you give to aspiring DJs and producers who look up to your work?”

Alex – Stay true to your unique sound and don’t be afraid to experiment. Network, collaborate, and most importantly, keep the passion alive. Consistency and authenticity are key to making your mark. Oh, and persistence is key. Thanks for the chat!
