Ronnie Wood Honors Brian Wilson on New Rolling Stones Album
Ronnie Wood has revealed that he has included a deeply personal tribute to The Beach Boys’ late frontman Brian Wilson on the upcoming The Rolling Stones album, Foreign Tongues.
The legendary rock icons recently confirmed the details of their new record, which is set for release on July 10 via Polydor/Universal Music. The project, which features 14 tracks, includes high-profile guest appearances from artists such as Paul McCartney and Robert Smith.
Speaking on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Wood shared the emotional backstory behind one of the album’s standout moments. He explained that he was in the studio working on the record when he received the news of Wilson’s passing in June of last year. Driven by a desire to process his grief through his instrument, Wood recorded a nine-minute guitar solo in a single take.
“I was so moved that day, and disappointed and sad, I had so much feeling because Brian Wilson died. I’ll never forget,” Wood told Fallon. The resulting performance, which was later edited down to a five-minute piece, now features on the track ‘Back In Your Life’.
Reflecting on the creative process, Wood added, “It came out through my guitar, the feeling, in just one take. I didn’t do that, the guitar played itself.”
The new album, produced by Andrew Watt, was completed in less than a month at Metropolis Studios in West London. It also features one of the final recordings from the late Charlie Watts, alongside contributions from Steve Winwood and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
While the band has not yet confirmed a full tracklist, reports suggest the album will also include a cover of Amy Winehouse’s ‘You Know I’m No Good’. Fans can look forward to the release of Foreign Tongues this summer, marking another significant chapter in the band’s storied career.
