Ahead of Record Store Day 2026, the music industry has bestowed the title of Record Store Legend upon none other than Robert Plant. The iconic Led Zeppelin frontman joins a prestigious lineage of previous winners, including Elton John and Johnny Marr, in recognition of his enduring influence on global music and his steadfast support for independent record shops and emerging artists.

The 19th annual celebration of Record Store Day is set to take place on April 18, bringing together over 300 independent retailers across the UK to champion vinyl culture. As part of the festivities, a vast array of exclusive physical releases will be available to fans, featuring contributions from artists such as Charli XCX, Muse, Suede, David Bowie, The Cure, and Paramore.

A Lifelong Connection to Vinyl

Speaking from the historic Spillers Records in Cardiff, Plant reflected on the significance of the physical format in an increasingly digital world. “Record stores have always been a part of my life,” he stated. “For me, once you get to the physical record it’s because you really want to know and be a part of what the artist was considering. And I know, as a guy who’s been making records since 1966, people want to take home something very special, to enjoy all the elements of what an artist has put together. We want a connection between the music and the art of the whole thing.”

Plant’s involvement in this year’s event extends beyond the honorary title; his EP, Saving Grace: All That Glitters, is slated for release specifically for the occasion. His commitment to the Rock genre and his continued evolution as an artist remain a cornerstone of his legacy.

Recent data from the Digital Entertainment and Retail Association indicates that the market for vinyl records has grown by 18.6 percent in value, with over 7.5 million discs sold last year, generating a staggering £238 million.
