Robbie Furze Launches M.O.T.H.E.R. Project with Jamie T and The Kills’ Jamie Hince

Robbie Furze of The Big Pink has officially launched a new collaborative venture titled M.O.T.H.E.R. The project, which Furze describes as an “open, evolving” collective rather than a fixed band, marks a significant new chapter for the musician, bringing together a close-knit circle of friends and long-time collaborators.

The debut self-titled EP, which arrived earlier this month, features four tracks: ‘My Love’, ‘Real Human’, ‘Traitor’, and ‘Surrender’. The project boasts high-profile contributions from Jamie T and The KillsJamie Hince, both of whom have previously worked with Furze on The Big Pink’s 2022 album, The Love That’s Ours.

Reflecting on the origins of the project, Furze explained that the music was born out of profound personal transition. “This EP came from losing my mother, and everything around it grew out of that – a band of brothers coming together,” he shared. “M.O.T.H.E.R. is a project that responds and adapts to what’s happening in the moment. The next release will be a completely different colour and approach.”

The lead single, ‘My Love’, is described by Furze as a track that “reads like a love story” and “sings like a hymn.” He added: “It came from losing my mother and having my daughter at the same time, just trying to hold onto hope, because love is everything and all around.”

The project’s debut EP is released via Fullaway and aims to balance anthemic scale with intimate, heartfelt songwriting. According to the project’s mission statement, the collection captures an initial moment of collaboration, with future installments expected to shift in line-up and creative direction.

The release follows a busy period for the collaborators involved. The Kills released their sixth studio album, God Games, in 2023, while Jamie T has maintained a high profile following his 2022 comeback album The Theory Of Whatever. Most recently, Jamie T collaborated with Fred again.. on the track ‘Lights Burn Dimmer’ and performed alongside The Maccabees during their high-profile London reunion shows last summer.
