Mastodon Announce New Album ‘Marrow Deep’ and Share ‘Snakes For Dinner’

Mastodon have announced their first album in five years, Marrow Deep, and shared the blistering new single Snakes For Dinner, which features a guest appearance by Josh Homme. The long-awaited record is scheduled for an August 28 release via Loma Vista Recordings.

A press release confirms that the follow-up to 2021’s Hushed and Grim will see founding members Brann Dailor, Troy Sanders, and Bill Kelliher emerge from a period of significant personal upheaval with a renewed sense of purpose. Drawing inspiration from the Three Fates of Greek mythology, the album promises to channel the band’s intense experiences over the last few years and will feature a series of special guests.

The project also marks the band’s first full-length effort to feature guitarist Nick Johnston alongside significant contributions from keyboardist João Nogueira. The lead single, Snakes For Dinner, features a vocal contribution from the Queens Of The Stone Age frontman, who also appears in the accompanying music video below.

Snakes For Dinner marks the first time Homme has appeared on a Mastodon recording since 2006’s Blood Mountain. The track follows last month’s release Your Ghost Again, the first song from the Atlanta heavy metal band since the passing of former guitarist Brent Hinds last August.

“Bill, Brann, and myself are thrilled that we still have the opportunity to do this, and we’ve got other members who are just over the moon to be in the band with us,” bassist Troy Sanders said of the upcoming record. “It’s reminiscent of the very beginning of our band, where all members are hungry, we’re united, and excited to get to work.”

In addition to the album news, the band has announced a North American tour for this autumn. The trek follows the group’s current European festival dates and will see them perform across the continent throughout September and October.
