Judge Denies Cher’s Request for Conservatorship Over Son Elijah

A Los Angeles County judge has officially denied a request from Cher to place her son, Elijah Blue Allman, under a conservatorship. The legal bid, which sought to grant the singer control over her 49-year-old son’s finances, was rejected during a recent hearing at the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Elijah Blue Allman, the son of the late rock musician Gregg Allman, has been the subject of ongoing legal scrutiny. Earlier this month, the legendary performer submitted an application for the conservatorship, arguing that her son’s condition had “deteriorated significantly” since her initial attempt to secure legal guardianship in 2023. The filing noted that Allman was currently in custody in New Hampshire, residing in a locked psychiatric facility as part of an effort to restore his competency to face pending criminal charges.

Despite these claims, Judge Jessica A. Uzcategui found the evidence insufficient to warrant an immediate temporary conservatorship. “I certainly understand the concerns of Mr. Allman’s friends and family regarding his behaviour,” Judge Uzcategui stated during the proceedings. “But those concerns do not necessarily equate to a finding that the proposed conservatee lacks capacity or that a probate conservatorship is appropriate. I am going to deny the temporary conservatorship without prejudice.”

Allman, who attended the hearing remotely from the medical facility, spoke briefly to request legal representation and express his gratitude for the judge’s ruling. His recent legal troubles include arrests in early March for causing a disturbance at a private school and an alleged home invasion in Windham, New Hampshire.

The financial aspect of the case remains a point of contention. Allman reportedly receives an annual trust allowance of $120,000, which Cher has previously alleged is frequently diverted toward substance abuse and high-cost living expenses. In her 2023 filing, she expressed deep concern that these funds were putting her son’s life at risk. However, Allman has consistently objected to his mother’s involvement, claiming she is unfit to serve as his conservator. The parties had previously attempted to resolve these matters through a private settlement in 2024, though the legal conflict has now resurfaced.

Judge Uzcategui has confirmed that the court will revisit the matter during a follow-up hearing scheduled for June.
