Ice Spice Turns Viral McDonald’s Confrontation Into Wendy’s Ad Campaign
The Bronx rapper Ice Spice has officially turned a viral social media moment into a strategic brand partnership. The artist is the face of a new commercial for Wendy’s, a move that arrives shortly after footage of a confrontation involving the rapper at a McDonald’s location in Los Angeles went viral.
The incident, which occurred on April 15, saw Ice Spice involved in a heated exchange with a member of the public while dining. The footage, which was widely shared across various platforms, showed the rapper clambering over booths to exit the establishment after a physical scuffle ensued. Rather than shying away from the negative publicity, the rapper quickly addressed the situation on social media, posting an edited version of the clip to her X account with the caption: “This wouldn’t happen at Wendy’s.”
Given that Ice Spice famously held a job at the fast-food chain before her music career ascended, the pivot to a promotional campaign feels like a calculated reclamation of the narrative. The new advertisement, which premiered on May 1, features the rapper promoting the company’s upgraded spicy chicken sandwich. In the clip, she adopts the moniker ‘Ice Spicy’ and sports a custom chain to match the new branding.

“I heard Wendy’s upgraded their OG spicy chicken sandwich,” she remarks in the commercial. “New spicy?!” The ad also features her track ‘Thootie’ and highlights her receiving a new tattoo, leaning heavily into the ‘Spice’ theme with the tagline: “Spice recognize spice.”
While the commercial marks a lighthearted turn, the legal ramifications of the initial incident remain active. Her attorney, Bradford Cohen, issued a formal statement following the altercation: “The unprovoked attack on my client has been reported to the LAPD and we will be pursuing any and all avenues to hold the perpetrators responsible for their actions, including criminally and civilly.” Cohen added that they are also investigating the restaurant’s security protocols.
This latest development follows a period of high visibility for the rapper, who released her debut album Y2K! in 2024. Despite the viral nature of her recent headlines, the artist continues to focus on her professional trajectory, balancing high-profile brand collaborations with her ongoing work in the hip-hop industry.
