Fontaines D.C. Share ‘Marianne’ Performance from Final Maida Vale Session

Footage has been shared of Fontaines D.C. performing their new single ‘Marianne’ from the final ever BBC Maida Vale sessions. The band also shared insights into how their late manager, Trevor Dietz, was instrumental in saving the song from being discarded.

The cinematic single was officially released on August 18, alongside the announcement of the band’s upcoming album, Dopamine Chamber. The track had previously been teased during the group’s recent summer live performances. Produced by James Ford, the album is scheduled for release on October 16 via XL Recordings.

This record holds significant emotional weight, as it is the first project released following the passing of Trevor Dietz, the band’s manager and close friend. The group previously described Dietz as the “sixth member of the band” who had been with them since the beginning of their journey.

The band recently shared footage of their performance at the historic Maida Vale Studios, recorded on July 31. While parts of the set were broadcast on BBC 6 Music, the performance of ‘Marianne’ was held back until today to celebrate the single’s official release. Alongside this, they have shared performances of ‘Roy’s Tune’ and ‘It’s Amazing To Be Young’.

The Role of Trevor Dietz in ‘Marianne’

The band revealed on social media that ‘Marianne’ was nearly left off the final tracklist for Dopamine Chamber. Bassist Conor “Deego” Deegan III shared on Instagram that the song was among 40 tracks written for the project but had been relegated to the “cutting room floor.”

“We were at his in Brighton one evening showing him all the songs, and he said ‘yere absolute lunatics’ for wanting to leave this song off the album,” Deegan wrote. “So we brought it back, and now it’s the first single off of our next album. This album is dedicated to Trev, all he gave us, all he taught us. Love you forever.”

The upcoming album is expected to explore darker, more synthetic soundscapes, following the success of their Mercury-nominated 2024 record, Romance. As the band continues their summer tour, including headline slots at Reading & Leeds and Electric Picnic, fans can look forward to a new chapter for the group, shaped by the enduring influence of their late manager.
