Bruce Springsteen and Steven Spielberg to Guest on Final Week of ‘The Late Show’
The final week of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is set to be a momentous occasion, with legendary figures Bruce Springsteen and Steven Spielberg confirmed as guests. The announcement follows the industry-shaking news last summer that CBS had decided to cancel the long-running franchise after 33 years.
Stephen Colbert, who took over the hosting duties from David Letterman in 2015, has navigated a turbulent final season. While the network cited financial reasons for the cancellation, widespread speculation has persisted regarding the political nature of the decision, particularly given Colbert’s frequent and vocal criticism of the Donald Trump administration.

With only four episodes remaining, the schedule for the final week has been finalized. Monday, May 18, will feature a special titled ‘The Worst of The Late Show’, followed by a Tuesday broadcast featuring an interview with Colbert’s mentor and former Daily Show colleague Jon Stewart, alongside the iconic filmmaker Steven Spielberg. The episode will also include a musical performance by David Byrne.
Wednesday’s installment will see Bruce Springsteen join the host, alongside a final edition of the popular ‘Colbert Questionert’ segment. The series will officially conclude on Thursday, May 21.
The cancellation has sparked broader concerns regarding the future of late-night television. Figures such as Conan O’Brien have previously suggested that the format is undergoing a seismic shift, potentially facing an existential threat. For his part, Colbert is already looking toward the future, having been announced as a writer for an upcoming Lord Of The Rings sequel, Shadows Of The Past.
