Watch Ms. Lauryn Hill perform tribute to D’Angelo and Roberta Flack at GRAMMYs 2026

Ms. Lauryn Hill led the tribute to D’Angelo and Roberta Flack at the 2026 GRAMMY Awards.

The iconic Fugees singer helmed part of the 1st February Recording Academy awards show’s In Memoriam segments. She was joined by D’Angelo’s band The Vanguard to perform their 1998 collaboration ‘Nothing Even Matters’ off Hill’s groundbreaking debut solo album, ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’. “D and I never got to this on stage together”, she said while introducing the Vanguard. “Make time for people you love while you can.”

She went on to perform a medley of music by the late neo-soul pioneer, who passed away this past October aged 51 after a private battle with pancreatic cancer, with Leon Thomas, Lucky Daye, Raphael Saadiq, Anthony Hamilton, Bilal and Jon Batiste.

Ms. Lauryn Hill then transitioned into honouring legendary soul singer Roberta Flack, who died in February 2025 aged 88 from ALS. She opened with ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’ with Batiste and the band, and was then joined by the likes of Leon Bridges, Alexia Jayy, Lalah Hathaway, October London, John Legend and Chaka Khan.

Hill closed out with Flack’s ’73 classic ‘Killing Me Softly With His Song’, joined by fellow Fugees member Wyclef Jean. The Fugees’ 1996 cover of ‘Killing Me Softly With His Song’ was a global hit and won the New Jersey trio acclaim and awards, including a performance GRAMMY in 1997.

The rest of the 2026 GRAMMYs broadcast featured wins for Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar and SZA, Gesaffelstein and more.

Ms. Lauryn Hill previously performed a tribute to Roberta Flack alongside Stevie Wonder and Wyclef Jean at Flack’s New York memorial service in March 2025.

The Recording Academy hasn’t made video of the complete performance available yet, but segments have been clipped on social media — watch below.
