Watch Lauryn Hill and Doechii perform ‘Doo Wop (That Thing) live in Miami

Lauryn Hill brought Doechii on stage to perform a duet of Hill’s hit ‘Doo Wop (That Thing)’ at a show in Miami last weekend.

Hill had been performing at the Jazz In The Gardens Festival at the Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday (8th March) when she brought the breakout Tampa-born rapper on stage.

This was Hill’s second live performance of the year after her appearance at Saturday Night Live’s 50th Anniversary Homecoming Concert in New York last month.

Taking to Instagram after the performance, Doechii wrote: “The first full length album I ever listened to was The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill. My mom would play it from top to bottom everyday on my way to school for years.

“I would sing your songs as if I wrote them, imagining myself on stage. Each song deepened my love for music and my curiosity to write raps. My favorite lyric in Doo Wop is “don’t be a hard rock when you really are a gem” that stuck with me anytime I wanted to “get even” or harden my heart towards those who wronged me.

“I carried your principles with me during my coming of age. And I carry them with me now at this current stage of my career, your lyrics are close to my heart.

“Thank you Miss Lauryn Hill. This is the greatest honor hip hop could give me. Praise God”

This week, Doechii was confirmed to appear at Glastonbury 2025, where she will headline the West Holts Stage on Saturday night.

Doechii won the Best Rap Album prize at the Grammys earlier this year, becoming the third woman to ever win the prize after Hill and Cardi B.

In June, Lauryn Hill and the Fugees announced an anniversary tour in celebration of her only solo album, ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’. However, the tour was quietly cancelled just two months later. Fellow Fugees member, Pras Michél, later released a diss track aimed at Hill and then, in October, he sued her over the cancellation.
