Up to 85% of AI-generated music streams have been demonetised on Deezer
French music streaming service Deezer has demonetised up to 85% of all AI-generated music streams on its platform, describing such streams as fraudulent.
Using its own AI-detection tool, which was launched in early 2025, Deezer revealed in September that 30,000 “fully AI-generated” tracks were being uploaded every day. As of January 2026, Deezer says that figure has doubled to 60,000 AI tracks a day, which amounts to around 39% of its daily intake.
These tracks have subsequently been demonetised and removed from the royalties pool as, Deezer says, the company “continues to support fair payments for artists and songwriters”.
The French company claims it’s the “only music streaming platform to explicitly tag AI-generated music” in the world, with 13.4 million AI tracks being detected and tagged by the service across 2025 alone. It has now unveiled plans to sell its AI-detection tool to other companies to use.
In a statement, Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier said: “Music generated entirely by AI has become nearly indistinguishable from human creation, and with a continuous flood of uploads to streaming platforms, our approach remains crystal clear: transparency for fans and protecting the rights of artists and songwriters.
“We know that the majority of AI-music is uploaded to Deezer with the purpose of committing fraud, and we continue to take action. We detect and tag AI-generated music and remove it from algorithmic recommendations, so that our users have a clear choice regarding what to listen to, while making it harder for fraudsters to game the system. And of course, every fraudulent stream that we detect is demonetised so that the royalties of human artists, songwriters and other rights owners are not affected.”

In September, Deezer said 28% of the music uploaded to the platform was fully AI-generated.
Earlier this month, Bandcamp officially banned music generated using artificial intelligence from its platform.
