UNTOLD X: six unforgettable moments from Romania’s favourite festival

Dutch future house star Don Diablo is always looking ahead. “For me, UNTOLD is the perfect place to debut a new show because you have all the production here,” he says, reaching for his Matrix-esque sunnies during a chat with DJ Mag. “All of the professionals are here. You have this crazy stadium and it fits with everything I’m doing.

“I’m from the future and UNTOLD is from the future,” he adds, flashing a smile. “I feel if you’re going to try something new, this is the place to do it.”

Don walks the walk on UNTOLD’s opening night, transforming the main stage into a first-of-its-kind spectacle. Despite a recent knee injury, he makes an energetic jaunt toward the end of the catwalk where his decks — enveloped in flashing blue and white lights — await. Ripping through a high-energy set of bass-heavy house classics and tracks like his own ‘Beast Mode (Knock You Out’), an edit of Daft Punk’s ‘Da Funk’, and an energetic reimagining of Depeche Mode’s ‘Enjoy the Silence’, Don asserts with his world-premiere show that he’s always down to deliver.

“I like taking risks,” he says, noting that the Romanian festival is one he feels has mastered the art of improving itself, without ever fighting to stay relevant. “With UNTOLD every year it gets bigger, and every year the love gets bigger,” he beams. These are warm fuzzies on overload.
