Toronto venue Cafeteria’s stolen equipment and DJ gear recovered
Equipment and DJ gear that was stolen from Toronto venue Cafeteria has been recovered.
The Dupont Street club suffered a break-in early on 1st August, during which “all of our sound equipment and DJ gear (except for the speaker stacks) was stolen, along with our entire stock of alcohol.”
Among the equipment stolen were two Pioneer CDJs 2000NXS2 and Technics SL-1200MK2 turntables, Pioneer DJM-A9, Pioneer DJM-900NXS mixers, as well as amps, subwoofers and more.
In a statement on the Cafeteria Instagram, venue management wrote: “AGAINST ALL ODDS THE MAJORITY OF OUR EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN RECOVERED!
“This was a massive coordinated effort made possible with help of neighbours and our community. Because of this, we will be refunding everyone who donated to the GoFundMe. The investigation is still ongoing, but the last few weeks have been a testament to how grassroots mobilizing can make such a huge impact. Words cannot express how grateful we are but once again THANK YOU!!”
In the wake of the robbery, local bar Juice set up a GoFundMe page, which raised over $19,000 CAD, to help the venue keep going. Organisers have said they will refund all those who donated.
An investigation into the robbery is still ongoing.
Cafeteria, which is run by Invisible City Record Shop’s Gary Abugan (who also DJs as Invisible City), opened last summer in the Junction Triangle neighbourhood. A recent event featured sets from Ciel, Young Teesh, Ariel Zetina, Playgirl, Swan Meat and Total Freedom.
