Todd Terry set to open hi-fi listening bar in Liverpool
Todd Terry is set to open a new hi-fi listening bar and café on Liverpool’s Wood Street.
Located in the Ropeworks area of the city – known for its independent shops, restaurants, galleries, and record stores – Freeze HiFi will take over a space in the Tea Factory building, formerly occupied by a Revolution bar.
The venue will operate a vinyl-first music policy and open until 4AM on weekends. While no official opening date has been confirmed, the space is expected to launch later this year.
Curated by New York house heavyweight Terry, whose influences and record collection will inform the tunes, Liverpool-based hospitality and nightlife veteran Andrew Duckworth is overseeing development and management. In an interview with the Liverpool Echo, he stressed that Freeze HiFi is not a nightclub and the space wasn’t for “drunk people”.
“[It’s] all about sound quality, not loudness,” he replied when asked about the potential for noise to bleed from the premises.“It’s not going to be thumping techno music… this is about Todd, this is his thing.”
UK bars and venues are increasingly looking to later running times in a bid to become more resilient to pressures impacting the nighttime economy. This week, East London space The Glove That Fits announced a new extended license, with events now running until 4AM on Fridays and Saturdays.
