The Sabres Of Paradise’s ‘Sabresonic’ and ‘Haunted Dancehall’ set for Warp Records reissue
The Sabres of Paradise’s early ’90s albums are getting reissued by Warp Records this summer
The newly remastered versions of Andrew Weatherall, Jagz Kooner and Gary Burns’ 1993 debut album ‘Sabresonic’ and 1994 follow-up ‘Haunted Dancehall’ will be released as double-LPs on 1st August in the UK and Europe (15th August in North America). The London trio split in 1995 and reunited (without the late Weatherall, who died in 2020) this year for their first live performances in three decades.
“We just thought it’s time to go back and revisit this”, Kooner said in a press statement. “To let people know that it was a pivotal moment in time, not just for us, but for a lot of other people as well. These are albums that really stand the test of time. People need to hear them live. Andrew, of course, wouldn’t be with us onstage. But we like to think he’d be standing in the wings, giving us the nod.”
Even before Weatherall’s untimely death, The Sabres of Paradise’s live show was lead by Kooner and Burns, while Weatherall would DJ to bookend the performance. In the last week, they’ve performed their first reunion gigs at London’s fabric and the Sydney Opera House, with festival sets at Primavera Sound coming up on 5th June and Dekmantel on 2nd August.
Jagz Kooner featured in this recent DJ Mag tribute to his former bandmate Andrew Weatherall honouring the fifth anniversary of his death this past February. “Andrew taking the test pressing or acetate to test on the dancefloor was always a nervous moment”, he told Daniel Dylan Wray. “However, watching him skilfully drop songs that we had just finished into his set at the right moment will stay with me forever… He truly was the master of the art and I’m extremely grateful that I got to spend so much time in his presence.”
