The Bug – Burials / Mud

The Bug, aka Kevin Martin, described his recent ‘Machine’ album a work of “compositional chaos strategy” — a dread-soaked dive into industrial dub. Martin’s jagged, apocalyptic bass has always called out for MCs, and on this new 12”, two ‘Machine’ tracks get the Bug re-rub. ‘Buried (Your Life Is Short)’ becomes ‘Bury Dem’, with grime and UK funky veteran Logan firing sharp bars over Martin’s trademark bass. ‘Deep In a Mud’, a reimagining of ‘Drop (Machine Sex)’ features Lagos-raised Magugu, who peppers the track with ad-lib weapons like “pew”. It’s hell-raising, speaker-rattling low end — classic Bug, built for maximum impact.
