Technics Announces Limited-Edition 1200 Turntable in Collaboration with Aimé Leon Dore
A Fusion of Audio Heritage and Modern Streetwear
Technics has officially announced a new limited-edition iteration of its legendary SL-1200 turntable, marking a high-profile collaboration with the New York-based streetwear powerhouse, Aimé Leon Dore (ALD). The new model, designated the SL-1200M7ALD, serves as a bridge between professional-grade audio performance and contemporary design sensibilities.
Drawing direct inspiration from the signature color and texture palette synonymous with the Aimé Leon Dore brand, the turntable is finished in a striking mulberry green. Beyond the aesthetic overhaul, the unit features bespoke detailing and a co-branded slip mat, ensuring that the collaboration is felt in every aspect of the user experience.
Engineering Excellence Meets Bespoke Design
While the exterior reflects a modern design language, the SL-1200M7ALD remains firmly rooted in the technical prowess that has made the 1200 series the industry standard for decades. The unit retains the core features that professionals rely on, including the precision-engineered S-shaped aluminium tonearm and the high-performance vibration-dampening platter.
Teddy Santis, founder and creative director of Aimé Leon Dore, emphasized the personal significance of this partnership. “I still buy records today, and I still have Technics turntables in my house, my office, and in our stores,” Santis stated. “Beyond the emotional connection, I’m in love with the object itself.”
Availability and Legacy
The release of the SL-1200M7ALD is accompanied by a wider capsule collection, further cementing the lifestyle integration of the collaboration. This launch follows Technics’ recent efforts to modernize its lineup, including the 2023 release of the SL-1200GR2, which introduced the brand’s “next generation” of direct-drive technology.
For collectors and audiophiles alike, the SL-1200M7ALD represents a unique intersection of culture and hardware, proving that even the most established audio equipment can find new life through thoughtful, design-led partnerships.
