Swedish House Mafia Premiere New Track ‘Happiness Is So Sad’ in Ibiza
Swedish House Mafia debuted a new track with Lykke Li during their Ushuaïa Ibiza residency this past weekend. The trio—comprising Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Axwell—premiered the collaboration, titled ‘Happiness Is So Sad’, on Sunday, June 28th, as part of their ongoing weekly residency at the iconic open-air venue. Following the performance, the group confirmed via social media that the single is scheduled for an official release on July 31st.
A Collaborative Vision
The group previously discussed the creative process behind this collaboration in a Vogue Scandinavia interview, revealing that the track was co-produced by industry heavyweights Max Martin and Oscar Holter. Sebastian Ingrosso described the project as an attempt to assemble a “Swedish Avengers crew,” noting the unique artistic depth that Lykke Li brings to the record. “Lykke is just one of the coolest artists ever—she’s a true artist. She has this depth that we really love, and her voice is so unique,” Ingrosso added.
Reflecting on the studio sessions, Lykke Li shared her experience of the creative synergy: “It’s always nerve-racking working with new people and writing something on the spot, but Sebastian completely put me at ease. His energy is insanely positive and infectious.” She further emphasized the emotional resonance of the track, stating, “When we found the riff we were all screaming with our hands in the air. Those melodies that pierce your soul, that make you want to cry and dance at the same time. We Swedes understand darkness but we love the light more than anyone else.”
Ongoing Residency and Recent Projects
Swedish House Mafia are set to continue their DJ residency at Ushuaïa Ibiza every Sunday through September 13th. The premiere of ‘Happiness Is So Sad’ follows a busy period for the trio, which included a high-profile Coachella-adjacent level of production at this year’s Ultra Miami. During that event, they hosted a main stage takeover featuring artists such as Afrojack, Boys Noize, and Kelly Lee Owens, alongside a notable reunion with Eric Prydz.
As the trio continues to evolve their sound, fans can look forward to the official release of the track later this summer. In the meantime, the group has also been active in other creative ventures, including a recent merchandise collection inspired by the 2026 World Cup.
