Studio 54 will reopen for one night only this week
The iconic New York club Studio 54 will return for one night only tomorrow night.
The historic venue is being revived for a luxury cosmetics event on 10th September as part of the lead-up to New York Fashion Week. Valentino Beauty will reopen Studio 54 for the first time in 45 years for the launch of a new line, the 2025 Rendez-Vous Ivory Collection, with aesthetics and imagery inspired by the disco hub, CR Fashion Book reports. The collection’s photography is by Dutch artist Carlijn Jacobs.
Valentino Beauty has invited “a few of the club’s original patrons” to the event for an “immersive evening”. Opened as a nightclub in 1977 by Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager, the nightlife hotspot was famous for its high-profile clientele, including music stars like David Bowie, Grace Jones, Diana Ross, Eartha Kitt, Elton John, Cher and more. It hosted key DJs of the era like Frankie Knuckles, Larry Levan and Nicky Siano.
Though Studio 54’s history is linked with the fashion world, counting designers like Diane von Furstenberg, Karl Lagerfeld and Calvin Klein, as well as Valentino among its guests, in 2019, co-founder Ian Schrager called out Michael Kors for “exploiting” the venue’s brand with a Studio 54-inspired collection.
Studio 54’s original run ended in 1980, though it unsuccessfully reopened under new ownership in 1981.
Nile Rodgers and Roosevelt paid tribute to Studio 54 with their 2022 collaborative single ‘Passion‘.
