Stormzy has announced a £500,000 fund to assist disadvantaged students.

London MC Stormzy, who recently shared plans to give away £10 million over 10 years to Black British causes and organisations, has announced the first donation from the allocated funds.

The artist announced that a £500,000 donation will be sent to the Black Heart Foundation, who provide educational access, learning, aspiration and achievement for underprivileged children. The donation, which was made through his Merky Foundation, will cover the cost of around 50 students who need financial support for higher or further education, not just university.

The Black Heart Foundation’s Each Day. Every Day campaign is the first UK programme to receive money from The Merky Foundation, with the campaign ultimately aiming to double the number of young people from under-resourced and under-represented communities it has helped so far through the campaign from 100 to 200.

Announcing the fund alongside his #Merky team back in June, Stormzy said in a statement: “At #Merky, we have always used our brand to elevate, support and amplify issues and the voices of the black community.

“To continue and expand upon our activism and philanthropic work, today we announce that Stormzy pledges 10 million pounds, over 10 years, to organisations, charities and movements that are committed to fighting racial inequality, justice reform and black empowerment within the UK.

“#Merky will forever remain devoted to improving and safeguarding the lives of those within the black community and this is just the beginning of our lifetime commitment to financially and wholeheartedly back these causes.”
