SOPHIE-Produced Big Freedia EP Set for Summer Release
Big Freedia is set to release a new EP co-produced by the late electronic artist SOPHIE. Originally recorded in 2016, the currently unnamed three-track project will receive an official release on 19th June via Hard Recs.
Lead single ‘Blaze That Ass’ is set to land this week (22nd May), though the track may already be familiar to some listeners. Over the past decade, it has circulated online via various leaks and recordings of DJ sets performed by SOPHIE, prior to her tragic death in 2021 at the age of 34.
“Recording with SOPHIE is something I hold even closer to my heart now, especially after her passing,” Big Freedia shared on Instagram. “She was an artist who showed the world that living boldly is your greatest power. With this EP, I want to show the world how loved she was and still is!”
Big Freedia, whose past collaborators include Drake, is widely credited with helping bring New Orleans bounce music to a global audience. Her collaboration with SOPHIE first began around a decade ago during sessions at the late producer’s Los Angeles home studio.

SOPHIE died in January 2021 following a tragic accident in Athens, Greece, leading to an outpouring of tributes from throughout the music scene. Since then, the International Astronomical Union officially named an asteroid after the artist, a Google Doodle was created in her memory, and a number of posthumous tracks have been released.
Her posthumous final album was released in 2024 via Transgressive and Future Classic. The self-titled release featured the likes of Nina Kraviz, Julianna Huxtable, Kim Petras and BIG SISTER. Last month, a fan-made archive was launched online to preserve SOPHIE’s legacy.
