SONOS announces long-awaited headphones, Ace

SONOS has announced a long-rumoured set of wireless headphones called Ace.

The new cans feature Spatial Audio, dynamic head tracking, lossless audio where supported, Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), and Dolby Atmos. Ace also feature the ability to connect directly to SONOS soundbars and use their acoustic modelling tech to create a room profile for the headphones.

The goal is to create a sense of ‘space’ around the headphones, modelled on the same room you’re sitting in. The Aces also can automatically switch between soundbar and headphones, once you place them on your head, if you want to keep watching a movie while others have gone to bed for instance.

SONOS say its Ace headphones have 30 hours of battery life with ANC switched on, and if you forget to charge them before you head out the door, a rapid charging feature gives you three hours of playback in three minutes of charging. They also come with USB-C to 3.5mm jack, though they can’t be used in passive mode once the battery is dead.

The headphones are designed to feel light and comfortable over long periods of wear, and the “ported acoustic architecture” gives an enhanced bass response. As you might expect, SONOS claims they’ve put a lot of effort into the sound of the Ace, with custom-designed components and “advanced software” to provide high-fidelity audio.

The SONOS Ace costs £449 and will be available from 5th June. You can pre-order now on the SONOS website.
