Selections: Logic1000
In an age where dance music seems to be getting faster and harder, Samantha Poulter, aka Logic1000, has mastered the art of slowing things down. Her debut album, ‘Mother’, which landed last Spring, was written during a prolonged period at home following the birth of her daughter, and channels her exquisite ear for melody and wistful, club-focused electronics into twelve life-affirming cuts. Named DJ Mag’s Album of the Month upon its release, the record is packed full of enchanting house shufflers, Latin-infused slow burns and honey-sweet pop heaters that effortlessly manoeuvre between the mainstream and underground, whilst invoking the spirit of long, golden evenings. It’s a radiant listen from front-to-back — and a testament to the power of doing things at your own pace.
Poulter approached her DJ-Kicks mix this past March with a similar blissful, free-floating energy. Melting together exclusive tracks from oklou, Purelink, DJ Plead and others, alongside two exquisite new Logic1000 cuts, it sees the artist sidestep clubland briefly in favour of warming downtempo, experimental pop and ambient sounds. “This DJ-Kicks truly represents my listening habits of the past three or so years”, she explained on its release. “I’ve really slowed down and found myself going deeper with the music I find and love. The reason I chose these tracks is because I adore my mornings and home life so much. There’s such a huge amount of peace and silence in my home that when I play music like this in my space, it adds another layer to the calmness”.
In the spirit of changing rhythms, the artist also recently launched daytime-into-evening party series, Therapy, aimed at parents, sober people, and other Berliners who might find it difficult to attend after-hours performances in typical nightclub settings. As a new mother who’s been open about her struggles with mental health, Poulter is dedicated to re-writing the clubbing rulebook and opening up these spaces to anyone who can benefit from the healing power of music.
Logic1000 is also a vocal advocate for mental health and inclusivity in club culture through her THERAPY podcast with Heléna Star. The podcast, which has amassed a devout following since its launch last January, sees the duo unpack topics of motherhood, mental health and the ever-changing landscape of the music industry together with handpicked guests, including Jayda G, Jamz Supernova, Aluna, Yukimi from Little Dragon, and more.
For this week’s Selections, Poulter lifts the lid on her kaleidoscopic palette, from bittersweet synth-pop and loungey deep house, to driving drum tracks and dark, techy surprises. Dive in below.
