This time around, the shortlist includes Nigerian-British vocalist Sade, who has already been accepted by the Songwriters Hall of Fame, as well as Lauryn Hill, Wu-Tang Clan, Joy Division and New Order.
To be eligible, at least 25 years must have passed since an artist or band released their debut commercial recording. Among the other contenders for 2026 are Oasis, Luther Vandross, INXS, Iron Maiden, Billy Idol, Black Crowes, Mariah Carey and P!NK.
The final inductees will be announced in April, with a ceremony at the Peacock Theater, Los Angeles, held annually each autumn. 2025 saw Salt-N-Pepa’s Spinderella become the first female DJ to be awarded a place in the Hall. OutKast were also welcomed into the institution.
