Ryuichi Sakamoto’s debut record under his own name set for vinyl reissue

One of Ryuichi Sakamoto’s earliest releases, ‘Disappointment–Hateruma’ is being reissued.

A collaboration with percussionist Toshi Tsuchitori, the album was first released two years before the foundation of the late artist’s hugely influential band Yellow Magic Orchestra. It was also the first to be released under Sakamoto’s real name.

The record, remastered by sound engineer Heba Kedry and pressed on vinyl for the first time, arrives on 27th February.

Ahead of the release next month, listen to ‘a / Φ (musique differencielle 1°)’ below.

Sakamoto passed away in March 2023 after being diagnosed with colon cancer in 2021. A posthumous album of his final performance was released as ‘Opus’ in 2024. A film of the performance was also released.
