Recognise 90: Valesuchi
Carried by its personal touch and with plenty of left turns, you’ll detect all of this in Valesuchi’s mix for DJ Mag’s Recognise series. In just over an hour, she lights the way with a procession of rough-and-ready techno scorchers and sweaty warehouse acid, seamlessly drifting towards a land of percussive wonkiness that dances ecstatically in circles around itself. Like Valesuchi’s own lean, mean machine transmissions, the skewed rhythmic excursions in this mix may be made for alone time in your living room, but they will leave you itching for the energy of the club.
For Valesuchi, nothing beats the thrill of putting on a really good night. “I would say hosting a party is a very unique feeling. It’s a very important and very honouring experience, actually. It’s a very powerful thing to do, to host a party for people and set the conditions and welcome people to something you believe in, to a situation you provide and help build from zero,” she offers. In 2022, she launched the DIY party venacava with her partner Duda Pedreira with that exact intention in mind, although financial pressures have sadly since brought it to an end.
Nevertheless, underscoring everything Valesuchi does is a commitment to stepping outside herself and crafting memorable moments for others. “You work with people’s literal time in life,” she reflects. “People have to listen to your music in real time, you know? So, how can I make this a joyful, valuable, interesting, mysterious, fresh, whatever, experience … Like, how can I make music that is worthwhile listening to?”
