Prins Thomas – Thomas Moen Hermansen

Prins Thomas – Thomas Moen Hermansen

Prins Thomas’ tenth album arrives without the fanfare that marked his early releases. ‘Thomas Moen Hermansen’ takes the flint of his psychedelic sprawls with key collaborator Hans-Peter Lindstrøm and sparks them into something more singular and introspective. After detours into experimental trance on 2020’s ‘Træns’ and the ambient-electronica drift of 2019’s ‘Ambitions’, Thomas now comes full circle to his space-disco strut. ‘KLHouse’ and ‘Heartbreak’ are studded by twilight melodies, bulbous basslines and punchy synth tom drums, while acid dots tracks like ‘Denpasar til Bangkok’ and ‘Søvnløs’ — all deliciously wobbly basslines that snake around disco beats and house hi-hats. The Krautrock-indebted melody on ‘Denpasar til Bangkok’ is like a long-shelved collab with Röyksopp. Feelings of after parties on distant planets are evoked throughout, and we hope to be invited.
